Higher Education Authority announces the appointment of Dr Anne Looney as interim CEO
The Higher Education Authority (HEA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Anne Looney as interim Chief Executive of the HEA effective from 1 August. She takes over from Mr Tom Boland who will retire on 31 July after nearly 13 years in post. The Authority thanked Mr Boland for his work. The acting Chair of the HEA, Dr Stephen Kinsella stated that "Tom Boland has played a very positive role in the development of the higher education system during his time as CEO. He has also overseen major changes within the HEA itself."
Dr Kinsella welcomed the appointment noting that Dr Looney will bring to the HEA 15 years’ experience as the head of a national agency, the National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NCCA). He added that "Dr. Looney will bring a strongly positive reputation in the education and wider public sectors. She has a good knowledge of the higher education sector and was instrumental with the outgoing CEO of the HEA in initiating the Transitions initiative."
The Authority would like to thank Ms Bridget McManus and her colleagues on the Board of the NCCA for facilitating this interim appointment.
