A showcase of projects funded by the Irish Research Council at Culture Night 2016

The Irish Research Council is delighted to bring #LoveIrishResearch to Culture Night this Friday 16 September, in partnership with Boston College Ireland.

Join us from 5-10pm, in Boston College Ireland's picturesque premises located at 43 St Stephen's Green, for a fun and informative evening of interactive activities, live music, performances and talks showcasing the breadth of cultural research currently taking place in Ireland.

Heather Humphreys T.D. is joined by Culture Night ambassadors (L to R) Irish Research Council performer Ras Mikey Courtney, Louise MacNamara, Colin Barrett, and Ronan O'Snodaigh (Sasko Lazarov / Photocall Ireland).

The Irish Research Council's family-focused event will also feature face painting, a scribblebot workshop and an exploration of Irish legends and wonder tales from the myth of Cuchalainn to the Hounds of the Morrigan.

Other happenings on the night include:

  • A demonstration of Etho-Modern Dance, by Ras Mikey Courtney.
  • A recreation of Haddon the Headhunter's 1890 magic lantern show about the Aran Islands, by CiarĂ¡n Walsh.
  • An overview of how Ireland's gay community has been represented in the media over the last 40 years, by Paraic Kerrigan.
  • A medley of gospel songs perfomed by the Christ Apostolic Church choir, who are the subject of research by Rebecca Uberoi.
  • Pictures, videos, and a live performance by Carrie Dike, who will tell us more about Irish traditional singing sessions.
  • And much more...
